Hi everyone!
So in the last post, I shared with you my pain of finding a wedding dress which complemented my figure. So since then, I have tried on so many dresses that I’m actually sick of seeing them… And I love dresses! So I know its an Xfactor saying, but this really has been a journey to find the right one! Honestly, it has been harder than some of the essays I’ve had to complete at university!
So during this ‘journey’ (I know I feel sick for saying the word as well), there have been some things that I have discovered which are definitely NOT appropriate to wear to a wedding. So without further ado…
Number 1 – Don’t re-wear unless it’s been a while
I’m all for making an outfit work multi ways but for a wedding I think this is a big no no! I recently wore this outfit to a wedding in June 2016 and although I love it and would wear it again to this upcoming wedding, you never know who you could run into on the day! This dress was from last year’s Peacock’s range, complete with a Primark long blazer. The shoes are from New Look but are now unfortunately unavailable on their website anymore. Luckily, both weddings are not connected and I shouldn’t come across the same guests from the previous wedding, but life is a small world! And you defo do not want to be known as the girl who only has that one posh outfit!
Number 2 – Don’t wear anything too short!
I’m not really a lover of things short, well unless its a shortcake! But this is a dress I recently bought from New Look Curves and when I saw it on the hanger, it didn’t look that short. However, as soon as I tried this bad boy on, this was a completely different story! All you need is a big gust of wind and the whole of the wedding party would see my big suck in pants, sexy I know!
Number 3 – Don’t wear a colour which drains you
This is a bit of a weird one as it is sometimes hard to tell and portray in photos. This Evan’s Grey Lace Prom dress looked lovely on the hanger when I picked it up in the sale, but when I got home and put it on it looked awful next to my lily white skin! I think this dress is better suited with perhaps someone who has darker skin than myself or if I had a spray tan. It’s a real shame as this is a beauty of a dress and the photo doesn’t do it justice. It would look great jazzed up with some sparkly silver jewellery and a silver bag!
Number 4 – Don’t wear anything too fancy, remember it’s their wedding, not yours!
Now people may have divided opinions over this dress but I think personally for me, this is too much. I’m all for getting noticed, but not for the wrong reasons! Like stealing the married couple’s limelight for example because you look better dressed than them! Some might think this Chi Chi London Curve Floral Midi Dress, from Dorothy Perkins, would work great for them but this one is in a shiny nude colour and I think it would look better for another event such as a prom or perhaps a summer graduation!
Number 5 – Don’t wear anything too casual
I was really gutted when I received this Lindy Bop Yvette Blue Polka Dot Swing Dress in the post because the photos online looked like it would be a really nice, sophisticated dress to wear to a wedding. Unfortunately, the top bit, is made from a t shirt material which gives the dress a more casual look. However, teaming this with red heels makes this dress a perfect outfit if you were invited to an evening do of a wedding. As I have been invited to attend the whole day, I feel this look was too casual for me! The dress appears to not be available anymore but they do sell other colours which can be found here.
These five Don’ts are just a guide and have been examples of what I have learnt over this past month. While they may not work for everyone, these five certainly helped me look in the right direction for the perfect dress.
So? You may ask! What have I chosen to wear to this wedding that I keep banging on about!? Well all will be revealed in my next post! In the meantime, I’d love to hear you share some ideas with me about what I should wear?! Comment below!
Love x
